Soundboy Selecta runs on your own computer and phone. It has no account, no login and no server of ours. We do not receive your music, your file names, or any record of what you sorted.
Everything the desktop app knows lives on your own disk:
~/Library/Application Support/Soundboy/config.json~/Library/Application Support/Soundboy/sessions/None of it is sent to us. The phone app keeps its own settings on the phone in the same way.
The app reads the audio files in the folder you point it at, in order to play them and read their tags. It moves or copies them into folders you choose. If you turn on tag writing, it also writes the destination folder name into each filed track's Grouping tag, and changes nothing else in the file. If you turn on playlists, it writes playlist files for Serato, rekordbox, Traktor or M3U on your computer.
If you connect a Dropbox, the app talks to Dropbox directly from your computer or phone, using your sign-in, to list, play and move the files you choose. You sign in on Dropbox's own page; the app never sees your password. The sign-in is kept in your system keychain and can be revoked at any time at dropbox.com under Connected apps. Nothing passes through us. Dropbox's own privacy policy covers what Dropbox does.
Voice mode uses the microphone, and only while it is switched on. What you say is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition: on your device where it can be, otherwise by Apple, under Apple's privacy policy. Soundboy looks for commands in that text and keeps no recordings. The last few things it heard are shown on screen, held in memory only and never saved. Nothing is sent to us.
When you switch the remote on, the desktop app opens a small web server on your local network only. Your phone, or the Soundboy iPhone app in Remote mode, talks directly to your computer over your own wifi. There is no service of ours in the middle. In Cloud mode the iPhone app talks to Dropbox, as above. The Apple Watch app talks to your computer or your phone the same way.
Access requires the pairing code in the URL. Anyone on your network who has that code can control the app and file your tracks, so treat it as you would a password. There is a button in Settings to issue a new one, which disconnects every device currently paired. On an untrusted network, turn the remote off.
Nothing else. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry and no advertising identifier in any of them.
If you choose Report a problem, the app writes a plain text file you can read before deciding to send it. It holds the app version, your system version, your settings without folder paths, pairing code or licence key, and the most recent filings. It is sent only if you attach it to an email yourself.
Static pages. No cookies are set and no analytics are loaded. If you join the launch email list, your address is stored by our web host, Netlify, and used for that one email. If that changes, this page will say so before it does.
Purchases are handled by a third-party payment provider, who receives your billing details in order to process the sale and to meet their tax obligations. We receive your email address and the fact you bought a licence. We never receive your card details.
This is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13.
